ESSE is the European Society for the Study of English, a federation of over 30 national higher educational assocations for the study of English. ESSE organizes a biennial conference and offers its members a variety of funding opportunities (including, e.g., an annual doctoral symposium, research grants, and book awards).
Its next biennial conference will be held at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 31 August to 4 September 2026.
A 'seminar' in ESSE parlance refers to what is often called a 'theme session' or 'workshop' in other conference contexts. In order to convene a seminar at an ESSE conference, convenors have to be ESSE members drawn from at least two different national member associations (in this case, the Belgian and Greek associations, BAAHE and HASE).
However, in order to participate in such a seminar and present a paper at an ESSE conference, membership is not required, so academics from all over the world are very welcome to submit paper proposals as part of this (or any other) ESSE seminar.
